How Zoom! Teeth Whitening Works

Because we offer two varieties of teeth whitening, the treatments will be a little different.

If you choose to have your teeth whitened at our St. John or Valparaiso office, here’s what to expect. Your dentist will apply a highly potent bleaching gel to your teeth, then use an ultraviolet light to activate it. When this happens, the gel breaks down persistent stains on the tooth enamel, and when the gel is removed, the stains go with it. For a thorough treatment, we will repeat this process until you are satisfied with the level of whitening achieved. This process can take roughly an hour and is capable of lightening your teeth by up to 8 shades.

Our Zoom! take-home teeth whitening kit includes custom-made whitening trays and a very strong bleaching gel (much more potent than what you’ll find at a drugstore). Use the instructions provided with your kit in order to get the results you desire, and feel free to use the kit later on for touch-ups.

Is Zoom! Teeth Whitening Safe for Me?

To be a candidate for Zoom! teeth whitening in St. John and Valparaiso, it’s important that you have healthy teeth and gums. For our patients currently dealing with gum disease or tooth decay, it’s best to get those issues treated first.

If you have sensitive teeth, Zoom! whitening might be too uncomfortable, due to the ultra-potent gel used in the treatments. We’d be glad to discuss your options and help you find a gentler, more comfortable teeth whitening treatment.

How Long Will My Teeth Whitening Results Last?

A beautiful white smile requires maintenance, with touch-ups here and there to preserve your results for as many years as possible. Here’s what we recommend:

  • Brushing your teeth twice daily and for 2 minutes each time (the normal recommended routine)
  • Flossing after every meal
  • Try to reduce your consumption of beverages that stain the teeth like coffee, brown soda, red wine, and black tea (drinking these through a straw can prevent too much contact with your teeth)
  • Avoid smoking or chewing tobacco
  • Be sure to see your dentist every 6 months for a dental exam and cleaning

Whitening for Life Program

We’re happy to reward our patients for keeping up with their biannual dental checkups and cleanings by offering a free bleaching touch-up treatment. Granted your teeth and gums are as healthy as ever, we’ll be able to include a complimentary teeth whitening treatment with your cleaning to refresh your smile.
